I'm trying to get kopete to work through Tor via a Privoxy local proxy server. The configuration is very simple to point it to the local SOCKS5 proxy, and I can do this without any issue under gaim. However I can find know way to use a SOCKS5 proxy either in kopete directly, or in the network settings in kcontrol. How do I implement SOCKS5 support?

I hate the 'use something else for irc' argument. If the app wasn't built for the protocol, then remove it. Simple as that. As for a good style - try the Psi style - similar to Gaim but cleaner. Also, if it's only your nick that's not showing up, surely then you know it's you anyway? ;-)

Kopete doesn't connect to irc servers. It's not a problem with my settings or connection because I can access those servers using any other client, it's only in kopete that it doesn't work. It seems to get some sort of connection at first, then falls over - for instance when connecting to freenode it tells me my nick is already in use (which it is cause I'm on another client) and asks me to change it - so I do, then nothing. Same for irc.net: (19:08:34) # Connecting to irc.net... (19:08:34) # NO...

Is there anyway to specify the dimensions of a particular class of window? I have my IRC channel windows at a larger size than my messaging windows, but when I close kopete it's the size of the last window that gets closed that gets saved. If that's an IRC channel window, then next time I open up it's all huge :-( -K

What do you mean default browser? I select the browser I want to use in KDE in the Control Panel, under KDE Components - Component Chooser - Web Browser. I think that is only followed by applications built around the KDE framework though - others (like gaim) have that option built in.

It's sorted by away states within online. So all the truly online people are alphabetised at the top, then the away people are alphabetised underneath. I don't like it that way either, I'd like to sort it by true alphabetical order.

Hey all, just started using Kopete tonight. I'm surprised I didn't find it sooner - it sounds exactly what I'm looking for. I have got a few things though. 1) I've got a wee bug(?) where the formatting toolbar keeps appearing if I look at an IRC /query window then any other IRC channel window. I remove the formatting toolbar by default because I want as much viewing space as possible, so it's annoying if it pops up. I certainly can't connect to freenode. Which is annoying, cause I've just started using kopete tonight and there are a few little things that I'd like to ask people :-( I guess I'll just post anyway.
