Quick Answers to Two Questions

I understand this is a somewhat ancient thread, but since I happened to be searching this very same information myself today, and this forum thread came up fairly high in my search results, I thought I'd go ahead and share what I'd found in case it helps anyone else searching for this information. Quoted from "Bob55" Hi All, Following this thread as well as the others on this subject, I'm still not clear on 1) Can the kde screensaver be disabled? 2) Can the xscreensaver be used instead? What are...

Questions about KDE and simplekde

Hi. I recently found about the simplekde project (which aims to be a lighter KDE) and noticed that it's currently a bit outdated (it's based on kde 3.4.1) and I wanted to know. What happened to it (was it abandoned, microsofted or did it merge into KDE)? Also if it merged into KDE how much of it's simplification made it to KDE 3.5.x? Also about KDE itself, when KDE4 becomes more widely used, will KDE3 go extinct, or will it be forked (I would like the latter, and the fork to become Mac-like, whi...

kde for windows?

There are a lot of websites about porting kde to windows using cygwin or native... To much websites, really confusing. What is the latest news on that? Any project still in active development? Any project has released something useful?

shortcut to paste text

I know exactly what you're talking about, but don't know how to do it. I would love it if somebody could teach both of us how to do this. what he is looking for is how to turn a shortcut key or a function key into a paste "text" key. For example: any time i press F10 or win-n my name would appear and format itself to match the text around it. That way i wouldn't have to type my full name each time. I know there are less efficient workarounds (and maybe a name is a bad example, perhaps each press...

RE: upgrade KDE 3.5.5 and no mount :-(((((((((

You need to configure your /etc/fstab This is where you tell Linux what to mount on startup and how you want it. I recommend you Google for info on how to do this.

Making Krusader the default file manager

Hi, I am trying to make Krusader my default KDE file manager. I (crudely) tried to do it by right clicking on a folder on Konqueror and associating it with Krusader (i.e. 'open as' and 'remember'). Regular folders are opened with Krusader after doing this. However, removable devices and CDs do not open correctly when they are mounted and try to show their contents on Krusader (the program simply does not open). I have read taht someone has created a script to substitute Nautilus as the default g...

[Kopete] - Keep all chat windows on the same desktop

I can't figure out where this setting is but I would like all of my kopete windows to stay on the same desktop that the kopete main window is positioned. Right now the default behavior is for it to open onto which ever desktop is being used at the time. This causes me to have chat windows spread out onto 4 different desktops when I want them all to be on one. This isn't in the faq for kopete and I can't find the setting anywhere online. Thanks in advance.

Accented characters and dead keys?

I recently upgraded to KDE 3.5.2, and I just noticed that the keyboard layout for "US International with dead keys" is missing. Is this a permanent change? Is there something I can do or install to get it back? How should I type in accented characters now?

keyboard layouts - how to switch between by alt+shift

Hi, I have installed KDE 3.5.3, but I am unable to find how to switch two keyboard layouts by pressing ALT+SHIFT (same as in Windows). Also, I would like to enable using WINdows key for popping up K-Menu. Possible? How? Please, do not send me information regarding XKBOptions and Scroll lock LED light, I am not interested in that outdated architecture. I want to use KDE switching, so forget about recommending to edit xorg.conf. Thank you.
