Don't get me wrong... I find KDE4 to be a really impressive piece of software, but still it has some very basic features that make people not use it. For example: - I live in Romania. In our country Yahoo is the most used im protocol. Kopete is not mature enough on this protocol and still has a lot of bugs like not working file transfer, avatars etc. ( I checked the svn version too ... same problems) - Konqueror is also very buggy and can't be used for daily use, making me use Firefox. - I will ...
I was just wondering what happens with kopete ... I don't know exactly where but I read somewhere that it won't be ready for KDE 4.0. The roadmap on techbase looks really promising from my point of view but didn't saw anything new happening. http://www.kde-look.org/content/preview.…e=Kopete+Mockup Another thing I do not understand is why this kind of a design doesn't reach the KDE HIG. Someone commented that the fact that the menu is not present it's not good in terms of usability ... that's rea...
It does the same on kubuntu and on my gentoo server ... any ideeas ... I would file a bug but the bug tracking system from kde is too ... complex ...
I have some issues with kopete ... last stable version ... It does not retrieve my contact list (on yahoo protocol) completely showing only 60 of the persons in my contact list ( the list stops at 'k' ) and it automatically creates a group with "persons not in contact list" for the persons with a nickname which begins with a greater than k letter. Also i see kopete styles do no support only a few adium styles most of them being only partially supported with the font and graphics all messed up.
I writing this post only to express my opinions on my experience on linux as a normal desktop user. I don't know about you but I'm sure a lot of linux users (not only currently kde users, because I'm not a kde user) are really expecting something special from the upcoming version of kde. The first time I read about the project and how well the subprojects are defined I really got the impression that this would be something really revolutionary and would change the whole idea of the desktop bring...
yes gnome is a really simple desktop with a really smooth workflow ... and I use it on most of my computers and the most beautiful mockup from kde-look I think it has something from gnome in it ... http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=28476 If the kde4 desktop would look something like that I think it would really bring something new ( the mockup that I was reffering too + the other mock-ups from kde-look that used the first one ( the notification one ... the one combining the tasks ...
What I like about kde is that it has a rather complete package and you can easily feel at home in it even if you are not a really experienced linux user. Gnome offers instead a more simple package with fewer applications but in my opinion works more smoother ... for example I think Konqueror has more features than nautilus but using konqueror is harder ... (I repeat myself ... it is just my opinion). I use kde in my daily use of the computer only because a lot of applications that I use are from...
welll i'm using only the yahoo protocol ...
I have the same problem ... + I can't see my friend's buddy icons on the yahoo protocol ... if I look at the properties menu for any contact ... at photo source everything is disable besides putting a custom picture ... and on the From contact: tab it says "No contacts with photo support" Please how can I fix that?
I've been looking all around for a place where I can post my feature requests for kopete and I guess this is the perfect place . I'm sorry if there is a place and I didnt find it . There are some things I would like to be implemented in kopete (for yahoo and gtalk coz thats what I use): - the first thing is the buddy icon for yahoo which doesn't work ... the other users can't see my image ; - the file transfer would be nice for yahoo but I understand thats in progress; - sending messages to offl...
