Konqueror

When I first installed Kubuntu Gutsy (a horrible buggy upgrade IMHO), Dolphin was indeed the default file manager. I simply used synaptic to completely remove it which caused KDE to default right back to Konquerer. Would not the same thing happen in 4.0 since Konquerer can still be used as a file manager in the absence of Dolphin?

Scanner only works when Logged in as ROOT

I definitely think that it's a permissions error. Unfortunately, as my scanner is connected via usb and not scsi, the permissions error is coming from somewhere else. Here's the output when trying to locate my scanner via "sudo sane-find-scanner" Quoted # sane-find-scanner will now attempt to detect your scanner. If the # result is different from what you expected, first make sure your # scanner is powered up and properly connected to your computer. # No SCSI scanners found. If you expected some...

Scanner only works when Logged in as ROOT

Hi. I haven't used my scanner since upgrading to Kubuntu Gutsy 7.10 with a clean install. I usually use XSane due to it having more options that Kooka. My scanner is a Canon Canoscan Lide60. It has always worked easily under Kubuntu no matter which program I was using. However, when I went to use it last night, XSane did pick up the scanner then shut down. I tried Kooka and it did the same with a KDE crash window. No clue what the cause is. It always worked fine before and I don't think it has a...

Audio CDs won't eject

Oh ... one other thing ... I have an external CD/DVD re-rewriter. When I insert an audio cd in it, it overrides the internal one which then dissapears but with no on screen unmount. If I have my desktop set where it shows audio cd icons, both will show up but both when opened will open the external drive only. If I cut it off, the internal audio will then reappear but will still be un-ejectable. This was not a problem until the last week either. I don't know what is causing either issue.

Audio CDs won't eject

This is a very new problem that just surfaced within the last few days and I can't figure out what caused it or how to fix it. All CDs (Rs, RWs) & DVDs will eject fine from either the desktop or a panel drop down but audo cds now will only eject the manual method -- pushing the button on the outside of the cd section of the laptop. The only change I've made lately is adding an external WD Passport hard drive which mounts perfectly and can be unmounted easily as well. I don't know if this has any...

KControl/System Settings modules not working after Adept update

Thanks a lot, jucato. I used Synaptic (I use it interchangeably with Adept -- no preference -- like them both) to reinstall the kde-guidance package and those modules work perfectly now. I think now that it actually had nothing to do with the recent updates thru ubuntu. Around the same time this all happened, I had just removed the "power manager" in favor of installing "kpowersave" as the power manager applet kept trying to shut my laptop down as it kept thinking the lid was closed when it wasn...

KControl/System Settings modules not working after Adept update

Hi. .... It seems lately that every other normal update I do cause something to malfunction. I'm using edgy with KDE my main desktop. I have both 'kcontrol center' and the newer 'system settings' installed and have for some time though I mainly rely on 'system settings' as my main avenue for tweaking control panel type modules. Well ... everything was fine until two days ago when I followed the normal updates from Adept Updater. It updated about 25 packages and everything for the most part is ru...

Kmenu

Hi. I'm an Ubuntu user and have been convinced to try the KDE desktop. I actually like it quite a bit as it seems a bit speedier than my other choice. One little thing that I can't quite get. The K menu ... all of the folders (graphics, internet, etc.) within the drop down are sorted alphabetically as I have it set that way. However, all of the actual applications within the folders are not sorted at all and seem to be placed in order of how they were installed. I went into the k menu editor and...
