RE: KDE 3.0 don´t start !

XWindows is not running that's why you're getting the message:

xset root : unable to open DISPLAY "" ""
xset root : unable to open DISPLAY "" ""
xset root : unable to open DISPLAY "" ""
xset root : unable to open DISPLAY "" ""
xset root : unable to open DISPLAY "" ""
xset root : unable to open DISPLAY "" ""
ksplash : Cannot connect to Xserver

Find your xinit script in your home directory and modify it so
that it calls "startkde" (no quotes) - you may have to add
the directory where KDE resides (usually /opt/kde/bin).

Good luck

Hi , how are you doing ?

Thanks for your answer about my problem with kde .
I´m a beginner in Linux , and I have some questions :

-about xinit script : I found this file in two places : /usr/X11R6/bin and /etc/kde/kdm but I didn´t find in /opt/kde/bin ( In my linux , don´t show kde subdirectory . )

- I am not sure , if I understand right : you suggested me to rename " xinit script " file to " startkde " , is it ?

Thanks for your attention

RE: KDE 3.0 don´t start !

frankzen, thanks a lot for your post.
i had the same problem (DISPLAY .... bla bla bla) and the change in xinitrc that you comment, solved it!
i put "startkde" in the place of "twm" and the following lines, then i tried again (this time with "startx") and KDE appeared on my FreeBSD!!!!

thanks a lot,
