It has a really nice design. And take a look at these benchmarks for a taste of the great performance boost you get when compiling stuff specifically for your own hardware.

FreeBSD is my favorite.

I know its not a distro, its a OS in its own right, but you cant dismiss the stability and coherence of the whole system.

And you can't beat FreeBSD's ports.

I only wish there were more system config ports so you can manage the whole things under KDE.

I have to say suse linux 9.0 pro & knoppix the thumbs up It works great, very easy to install & run program & drivers.

I really don't like lindows very much, cuz they have this Click & Run option you have download all their appz & games thru their website, which kind of sucks...It would really suck for people who have dial up connection.

I'm back with Arch again. I seem to come back here, whatever I try: FreeBSD, Debian, Slackware, Gentoo... I guess I'm just addicted to its simplicity.

Yeah I agree with ya Gento & slackware are pretty good too, but addicted suse9.0

I have been using SUSE 6.0 about 4 years ago, than went back to Windows, Than installed SUSE 7.0, than went back to Windows.
This was all based on lack of drivers and for a USER (and not a programmer) SUSE and Mandrake (I tried once 3 years ago) it was to complicated to get along.

Lets face it, I want to switch on my computer and get on with my work (I am a Web-Designer).
Than SUSE 9.0 came along and i am just giving it another try.
Everything works brilliant, except:
Suse comes with an old version of Quanta, my tool of choice for web design, so it starts.

Installing the latest version of quanta is not as easy as downloading a file and installing it. Apparently it works best with KDE 3.2.

So why not getting KDE 3.2?

Well, first I download konstruct, which i found out about on this forum after 2 days of searching and after several queries on these pages i got kde 3.2 installed and done all the adjustments so it should run, but NO 3.1.4 is still running (just waiting for a reply from anyone what I do wrong). So after nearly 1 week of trying I still cannot use my quanta to get on with my work.

I know a lot of you will say it is easy, just do this or that, but if you don't know you are stuck. Maybe in a few years time i will think different, I do hope so.

I have another computer running windows XP where i have Macromedia Dreamweaver MX installed. the installation took about 10 minutes and I was straight into working, earning some much needed cash. Macromedia Studio XP did cost me about $800, that means I will need to work about 2 weeks to get that money back in, but the way I am going with Linux at the moment, it will take me another month before everything will work and I can start earning some money with it. You can calculate yourself how much that will cost me!

Beside that if I can get Linux to do what I want it to do, I will stop using windows (and all the virus problems) and use Linux full stop.

By the way, I think SUSE gives out a great distribution, but when it comes to help that goes further than standard installation, it also costs a lot of money. Thanks for these Forums.

Linux is somethimes difficult but it deserves the effort to try it . I can't stand on Micro$oft and I have the time to spare on Linux . So Linux and of course Slackware are the best

I'm a developer myself & I hardly ever use windows cuz all my work is done on the linux box rather than windows, dont have much time to play game, only do when I'm bored.
