This does not sound good for RedHat ......redhat no more?

Red Hat sent out an email to registered users yesterday announcing As previously communicated, Red Hat will discontinue maintenance and errata support for Red Hat Linux 7.1, 7.2, 7.3 and 8.0 as of December 31, 2003. Red Hat will discontinue maintenance and errata support for Red Hat Linux 9 as of April 30, 2004. Red Hat does not plan to release another product in the Red Hat Linux line.

Go check out the Fedora Project. Redhat handed over control of the community release to the http://fedora.redhat.com/ project (well they still maintain editoral jurisdiction.) Now redhat linux will be a community supported OS maintained by the fedora project.

True, Coporate RedHat will be no more but I am finding it hard to feel too bad about it, especially from a KDE standpoint. For years now Redhat has either shipped an obsolete version of KDE or a busted version of KDE (i.e. disabled features that Gnome did not have, introduced buggy code, disabled entire programs, etc..)

I am hoping that Fedora (under the pressure of community development) will work to fix these short-comings. It will all depend on how much "editorial" control Redhat decides to maintain. It could be a great day in the life of desktop Linux.. a politically Debian free Debian type distro!

Well, Red Hat has not done its homework on the name. that it has picked. some one else has the rights to FEDORA and its been since 98

I don't like the fact that Fedora is going to function as a testbed for RH Enterprise Edition. I won't trust Fedora to function on my server, which I did with RH.

I think that Fedora will be better than than future desktop versions of Red Hat would have been. First of all, Red Hat was a little bit conservative about what was included in the distribution and versions of it. And it pushed Gnome to much. I hope this will change in Fedora. I hate Gnome. It is not even comparable to KDE. KDE is the best there is on any operating system. Otherwise I like Red Hat. And now it will probably get much better. SuSE is getting too Windows-like. And so is Mandrake, which I never liked anyway. Long live Fedora.
