newbie needs help
Hey guys, just started into the world of UNIX! I'm currently running FreeBSD and just got KDE working. It was a pain working with the screens settings but I finnaly got it to run. My question is: How do I change the resolution? I've got a 3DFX VooDoo 3 video card and I can only run in 640x480 resolution. I've edited the config file to load at 1024x768, but it doesn't like it. Once I tryed hitting CTRL+ALT+"+" but that made it worse. Please help me.

The easiest way to change that is through the KDE control center.
There you can find a section called "Size & Orientation" under "Desktop" (at least in Fedora distro and KDE 3.1.4).
Try that first. You just need to choose the resolution from a combo box.
If that doesn't work you need to see whats wrong with the XF86Config file. Using a tool for that is always better :-)

What tool would you suggest using to edit the file? I'm using an older version of KDE (3.0.5) so I don't have the option of choosing a resolution from a menu.

What version of FreeBSD are you using? Actually the X config is pretty straight forward. I would rely on that rather then KDE. I also would suggest to install kde 3.1 or 3.2 so that you can adjust your screen resolution more easily.
