Problems with installation of KDE 3.1.X on Debian testing

I'm running Sarge and I'm trying to install KDE 3.1.2 but I'm running into
problems.
This is what I'm doing:

I'm adding this line to my sources.list:
deb http://download.kde.org/stable/3.1.2/Debian stable main

after that I do an apt-get update and an apt-get dist-upgrade (I've also tried
doing an apt-get upgrade).

When I do the dist-upgrade it wants to uninstall a bunch of packages, not
upgrade them. Like this:

[code:1]
Building Dependency Tree... Done
The following packages will be REMOVED:
ark guarddog kab karm kate kcalc kcharselect kchart kcoloredit kcron kdebase
kdebase-doc kdebase-libs kdelibs3 kdelibs3-bin kdepasswd \kdepim-libs
kdewallpapers kdf kdict kdm kedit
kfind kformula kfract kghostview khexedit kiconedit kit kivio kjots kmail
knewsticker knode knotes koffice koffice-libs konqueror kons\ole kontour
korganizer koshell kpackage
kpaint kpm kpresenter krecord kruler krusader kscreensaver ksirc ksnapshot
kspread ksysv ktimer kugar kuser kview kword libkdenetwork1\ libkmid libkonq3
libqt3c102-mt libsoqt20c102
mysql-navigator secpolicy
The following NEW packages will be installed:
kdebase-data libqt3-mt
0 packages upgraded, 2 newly installed, 66 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 4837kB of archives. After unpacking 120MB will be freed.
[/code:1]

What am I doing wrong?!
I've tried to uninstall all the packages above and then installed single apps
like Kmail, but when I do that it just wants to uninstall
kdebase-data............ and install a bunch of old KDE packages.

Please help !!!

testing is currently not in a good state.

There might be a problem with GCC version, if testing is already on 3.2

Users in debian-kde report KDE3.1.2 working on Woody and unstable witout problems.

Ok, so basically I should wait until kde3.1.2 shows up in testing? Bummer. Does anyone know when that will happen? I'm really wanting to run KDE 3.1.2, and I don't want to run unstable. I'm not quite that dareing......... :)

Judging by the posts on debian-kde, unstable is currently in a better state than testing.
YMMV

I have the solution but....

I post a article in KDE-Hispano (http://es.kde.org), that explain how to install KDE 3.1.2 from woody repository in Debian Sarge, but it's only in Spanish :-(

It was here http://es.kde.org/modules/news/article.php?storyid=81, you can try to translate in English with Konqueror in Tools->Translate web page->Spanish-English.

It is more or less understandable (like my English XD), I hope this was useful to you.

melenas: I have now tried what you described in your post on the spanish part of the forum but I still get the same result as I got in my first post..... I think I must be doing something wrong........ :(
I created a preferences file with the content you wrote + added the all the lines to sources.list that you did. Then I did a apt-get update and apt-get (dist-)upgrade.
Hmmm............ anything else I could be missing?

Article translated

I think that you don't make the steps in order, it's not enough copy my sources.list. Anyway I send a translate copy of my article to http://dot.kde.org last night (Spanish zone time).

I don't know when it will published, so, if you want a copy as soon as posible, write me to pjmelenas@I_HATE__SPAMbiwemail.com.

melenas: I am very interested in your translated article. I tried to mail you but have gotten no response. I guess I'll wait till the article is published on dot.kde.org. :(
