cdrdao error on cd burner

I have KDE 3.1 on SuSE 9.0 Pro that is just out of the box, with the YOU web updates. The cd software is K3b.

I am trying to install a 52x32x52x CD/DVD drive. The two issues I have are:

1) The DVD portion of the drive is not recognised in any way.

2) On the cd burner, I keep on getting an error which states "cdrdao has problems with ATAPI writers
When K3b 0.10 was released no version of cdrdao was able to write without SCSI emulation. Although it is possible that there actually is a version with ATAPI support it is unlikely.
Solution: A solution is to enable ide-scsi (SCSI emulation) for all devices. You may also install a more recent version of cdrdao which supports ATAPI devices.

So where would I find this SCSI emulator, or is there an updated version of cdrdao? I went looking for answers to both issues and came up empty. I am a new user, so less technical and more verbose would be greatly appreciated.

I think you have to load the ide-scsi kernel module on startup.

Setting kernel modules on SuSE is probably done somewhere in Yast.

It might also solve the first problem.

I did find this http://portal.suse.com/sdb/en/2003/04/tsaupe_k3b.html but it only fixed part of it. I now get a "I don't have a writer" error. I'm on the right track, but an still lost. My install of Kaffine doesn't play DVD's, and that is the only media player I have that would have, so who knows if the DCD function is fixed.

Thanks for the reply.
