KDE Bar/Panel Icons - HELP!!

Hi there,

I'm an avid Gnome user who is interested in easing into using KDE fulltime. I really like how well constructed, designed, maintained and supported KDE is. There are lots of GREAT programs that run native to the KDE environment. One of my favorites is "Noteedit." As a band director, Noteedit is a GREAT program for music notation.

Ok...back on subject. :)

I like to put my panel (taskbar...what ever you want to call it) on the top of the screen like a mac. (I even do that on my WinXP machine) For me, it makes the most sense. My Linux machine is an old laptop that can only go to 800x600 on the 12.1" screen. I set the panel to size "tiny" and it is exactly the same size as my panel in Gnome. Unfortunately, when it is set to "tiny" the icons are significantly smaller than they are on a comparable sized Gnome panel (such as... 16 pixel icons vs 24 pixels).

Is there a way to change the icons on the bar so that they are bigger? The icons also shrink to this tiny size when the panel is of size "small." When the panel is of size "normal" the icons are properly proportioned to the bar.

If anyone knows how to fix this, I would GREATLY appreciate it!!!!!

BTW....I'm running KDE 3.2.2 on Fedora 1 using packages that were linked on the KDE.org website.

Heh, I think you found something that can't be configured... :)
It seems that there is no way to change panels icon sizes from the gui, it might be possible to change panels icon sizes from some config file but I don't know about that.
If someone knows how to achieve what the man above wants, please answer because I am also curious to find out. :)

I thought of a crude hack, but I don't know if it would work. My Gnome panel when set to 24 pixels (the same size as "tiny" in KDE) it still uses 48x48 pixel icons....only they are scaled to fit the panel. What if I replaced all of the small size KDE icons wih icons of size 24 or 48? It's a crude "hack", but perhaps that will fix it. I will have to give that a shot later tonight. I will post the results.

Ohhh...I've been meaning to ask this question. Does anyone using a distro OTHER THAN Fedora have this same issue? I'm wondering if the redhat-artwork RPM just isn't as complete as it should be. Perhaps Fedora 2 (being released on Tuesday) will have corrected this issue.

re: KDE Bar/Panel Icons - HELP!!

hi tubatodd,

i am using a different distro (Mdk 9.1) and experience the same exact thing. i tried settings of Tiny and Custom, both yielded the same result. the Tiny setting shows small icons, while they do not jump to the next increment until i get to 30 pixels setting for the panel height. it is strange that these icons do not resize like the SVG icons do elsewhere.
