Kopete IRC/Konqueror help

Okay two questions,

1st) My Kopete, along with any other IRC Client I've tried to use don't work... they start to connect me to an IRC Server and then they dont, i dont remember what it says cuz i aint on my comp right now...

and

2nd) My Konqueror Webbrowser that came with SuSE 9.1 is really slow... It loads pages at like 3.5KB/s (or so it says in the status bar), but the Downloads are 350kb/s... is there any way I can make it faster? and its also that slow in Netscape 7.2 for linux
