Kopete install - newbie question - where did it go?

:?

Ok.. I am real new so please be gentle LOL this is my jump off a pier into deep water.. linux and me. I am using mandrake 10. It came with Kopete which i like but which had problems connecting to yahoo. So I downloaded the latest application, went through the installation process as described in the read me. And went back to the application and it still says 0.8.0 not 0.8.2.

So I am at a loss.. what was all the processing about and why didnt the application registeri itself in the main menu?

All help graciously accepted.

Well, first of all, you should deinstall your previous version of Kopete. Then reinstall the new one (0.8.2 or whatever). If there was no error messages, then open the "Run Command..." dialog either from the KMenu of by pressing Alt+F2. If your install worked, type in "kopete", press enter, and it should start.

To add it to KMenu, first try the Menu Updating Tool, which is situated under KMenu->Utilities->Desktop. Press "Scan" and see if it finds it itself, if so, select it and press "Apply" and it should be in your KMenu.
