Do you want a Main Network and a Kopete board???

Here is much about kopete and there was the wish to get a sub-forum for that but the problem is that I can only make the following structure:

+ Network & Internet
| - Main
| - Kopete

I cannot make a sub-forum in the board - only sub-categorie is possible ... (things that wont be anymore in phpBB 2.2 but there going a long way)

What do you think???

Definitely, the majority of threads which are started in the Network section are kopete based, especially since the kopete website gives a link to the kopete forum here. you can see it at http://kopete.kde.org

A whole category for a single application would've been overkill anyway.

My guess is that there won't be that much questions about kopete anymore when KDE 3.2 reached the "stable" status.

phpbb22 and kde 3.2

The best would be the release of phpBB 2.2 with sub-forums in forums... but phpBB 2.2 is coming in a few months.

The problem is when I add a kopete forum I think other applications will be requested. But I wouldnt like a board structure like
KDE Network
- Kopete
- KSirc
- and the other programs

So what should I do???
.. or maybe we have a sticky topic as Kopete FAQ in this board..

I think Kopete topics need a subboard. Just try to refrain from making subboards for other apps. And if the Kopte topics start dying down, then I guess you could remove the subboard.

Well, just look at the latest dozen posts on this board. They're all concerning Kopete! I wish it wasn't so buggy, then there wouldn't be some many questions about every problem it has.

Personally I think that a sub-section is a good idea :wink: and from seeing all the questions that flies around I think I can safely say that even when it stabilises there still will be a fair mount of questions asked.

Well, I think with the release of KDE 3.2 the most Kopete problems will be fixed.
And if other people follow the example of flatnick and mine to post the rpms they had build for their distributions, many problems will be fixed, too.

So i would wait till the release of KDE 3.2 and then have a look after a month or two, if there are still so many Kopete Posts.

I think there is maybe one new question about kopete every two weeks or so, the rest are questions that have been answered a thousand times before but people are unwilling to search for previous threads on their questions. The most notorious of these repeat questions deal with changing the send message key to enter, and compiling with the proper prefix.

I agree with this assessment.............this is a problem that occurs in any forum, not doing a search before asking for help.

A lot of the regulars at LQ will often gently remind users to search for their answer, especially if it's an often asked question. And sometimes they'll post a link to a forum search results they did themselves that a user can look through......

How long a minute is depends on which side of the bathroom door you're on.

Weaknesses of Search:

Often when I search on the forum, using very specific keywords, I come up with too many links that are garbage and have nothing to do with what I am searching for.

For example, I tried a search for setting a home page, then setting a group of tabs as home pages, and came up with what seemed like thousands of links that were totally unrelated, even when i put the word AND in between each word.

This is not the only forum I am registered to that has this problem, and it has been discussed on other popular linux forums using phpbb.

So my vote is a sub-category for kopete now, and in the future, so that I can find things more easily for Web browser.

My two cents (American) worth :wink: [Whew! I'm glad I got that off my chest...I now feel so much better!]

If someone (like me) is not interested in kopete it is really anoying to read all those "can't compile", "MSN not working"... kopete topics.
There should be an additional forum for kopete because of so much posts about it.

You need to break it out... when 87.37% of the posts are Kopete based, but with subjects like "just a small prob" it gets annoying for those of us networkers who don't care bout the IM issues...
