loading microsoft office documents in konqueror/open office

Hi, im fairly new to konqueror and currently designing an intranet that has to run on both linux and windows.

The linux pc's run konqueror and when i run a command to open a microsoft .doc from the web server, it neither opens in konqueror or open office.

What i get is a pop-up box stating whether i want to save or open the file, i can save it fine, but when i click open (which is needed), the box disappears and nothing opens.

I would prefer the file to open in Konqueror rather than open office.

Does anyone have any ideas on this? I guess it is a straightforward task, but as im new to konqueror, finding any information on how to do it is proving difficult.

Thanks for your time.

while in konqueror, right click on a *.doc file and select 'open with' - in the window that appears there is a check box with the option to remember application that you enter in the field above.

open up konqueror options, and change the filetypes for doc and for any coming up under "ms" when you search.

Actually this setting is under Control Center->KDE Components->File Types. File type is 'msword' listed under 'applications.'
......but......

Konqueror won't open msword documents, at least mine won't. Konqueror previews text files in either Embedded Advanced Text Editor or Kwrite, neither of which can cope with msword format. Open Office will read/write msword form but it's very slow opening, Ithink Kword will read but not write msword format (don't have Kword on system, short of space), so you will have to use one of these.
