I've ran into this problem too with the Kopete 0.7.1 on KDE 3.1.3 that ships with MDK 9.2. Right now, I'm sticking with Gaim.
"Chopsticks require a person to use 64 muscles and 30 articulate movements simultaneously, which also acts in developing brain potential."

KDE 3.2 RC1 Kopete seems to have fixed it.

The only thing is it re-import my AIM, in lowercase, but didn't remove the old names. And the old ones didn't work, however the re-imported ones did. It also broke apart names that I had multiple protocols into multiple name entries.

It just took a little time to re-arrange everything. And Yahoo! works again.

I get the same thing. Think it was 7.4 and used to work. Suddenly all users were offline. The stupid thing was they could send you a messge, kopete would ask if you wanted to view or ignore. Chose view and message pops up. Try to send a message and it says their OFFLINE.
What the heck, they just sent me a message.

Now complete new install (old kopete wasn't on this one) and using KDE 3.2 and get the same thing.

Tried bad password and it tells me that wrong. Reset to correct and connects. Still All Others are always offline. Check with Gaim and they are online.

Deleted all kopete files in ~/ and redo account. Same thing. I even have another account. Started it with Gaim and got like above, couldn't respond though because I was offline. I didn't know that, just sent a message.

Really silly stuff. Still haven't figured it out. Any Clues?
Back to the forum.

Qt: 3.2.3
KDE: 3.2.0
Kopete: 0.8.0

Seem that I was finally able to get my other alias working by clicking on contact and telling to add. But this option is only avail if the person is contacting you. You should be able to see who is online and not have to wait until they contact you.
No I just get:
[code:1]An internal Kopete error occurred while parsing a message:
XSL document could not be parsed![/code:1]

So nothing goes thru.

I have libxslt and libxml2 above the versions they recommend. Looked in
KDE Control Center File Associations and .XSLT didn't have any associations.

Searched kde and kopete though and don't have a clue what to use.

So added extensions *.xsl
since it only had *.xslt

Then nothing in embedding either so added same ones in XML embedding. Not sure that was the right thing to do, but finding no guidance.

Does anyone know if can not install Kopete when install kdenetwork now that it is embedded in kde 3.2

It never works right, Gaim works perfect, so it is bloat. Guess could just remove the files and folders.

Figured it out. Put:
DO_NOT_COMPILE="kopete" in my /etc/make.conf file in Gentoo.
Added a bunch of other bloat.

Same here

I had this problem the first time I tried to connect. I restarted KDE and it's been working ever since. Oh, and I nuked all my old ~/.kde stuff so 3.2 created it all brand new, that might be the key.

You know that might be the ticket. There were a lot of problems with kde3.1.5 being installed also, might put kopete back in and try it again since have 3.1.5 removed.

OFFLINE users in the contactlist, who should be online

Hi, your users seem to be offline, because your "serveside contactlist" is empty. You only see the local one and you are not able to store it to the icq-server you are logged in ...

I have the same problem with fedoras KDE 3.2 and kopete 0.8 ...

MY SOLUTION:

Do you have the javaplugin installed ? Then connect to icq2go (www.icq.com) and create your "serverside contactlist" once by looking for the uin of your chat-partners. After that, each one will be displayed online in kopete ...

further information is described in bug 61223:

ICQ plugin shows some online users as offline.
At first I thought this has something to do with the client the remote side uses, but now I am begining to suspect that it is somehow connected to my serverside contact list.
Seems to me that only contacts that are on my serverside CL show their online status correctly.
However, I cannot really test this.
But I have tested Kopete vs Licq, Kopete vs Kopete, Kopete vs ICQ 2002 - with all of these I was able to see offline user instead of online.
How is serverside contact synchronized? Is it at all?

------- Additional Comment #3 From Ladislav Strojil 2003-07-14 16:28 -------
Oh, sorry for the fuzz, it seems there's something wrong with the component list for kopete.
Searching for ICQ return "AIM Plugins -". Selecting this causes the bugs to be assigned to no
product and not component. Thanks Dirk for putting those bugs right.

------- Additional Comment #4 From Ladislav Strojil 2003-07-14 18:37 -------
OK, so I've tested some more. I used ICQlite under Windows to add some of the
contacts to my serverside contact list and they started showing correctly.
So the bug is:
1) adding contact locally does not add it to serverside contact list
OR
2) contacts not on serverside CL are shown with incorrect online status.

I don't know about inner workings of Oscar, so I think it's both 1 and 2. But I can be
mistaken, of course.

I don't think that works with AIM. Not using ICQ, but the IM.

This is silly. Have two aliases. Just tried the other one and had one of the contacts send a IM (note, kopete never on either alias gets the contact list from server. Gaim does)

Viewed message, tried to send reply. Says offline. Closed window. Added contact to contact list. Bam, contact online now. Can talk to and comes back up when restart kopete.

Okay, try the previous alias (which was my first alias, works fine with Gaim, connects to server, everyone knows I'm online. So can't say, maybe your not connected,...) Have them send me a message. Run thru the same steps and Bam, contact still offline.

So one alias works the other don't. Tried deleting the contacts and account for the one not working and recreate account. Still nogo.

The only difference is one contact has a number 2 at the end. That is the only difference that can say is anything.

The other funny thing. Start Gaim with alias that don't work on Kopete. Start alias that works on Kopete. Both see each other online. And can talk to myself (sounds bad :) ). Not the other way around though.

Also just tried manually adding a contact. Can add one to alias that works and see's them online. Not with alias that refuses to work. If try to add to both when using wizard, kopete will segfault.

Example of alias difference:

Works: KdeMan
Doesn't work: DoesNot2

ICQ Ofline Contact List error

I appear to be having a similar issue to this in ICQ, where The contacts I imported from the ICQ server show online/offline status correctly, but a new contact I create did not upload back to the ICQ server, and the staus would always be offline even when the user was online. I got the contact status to appear correctly by adding the user to the contact list on the ICQ server using the ICQAnywhere flash based client. As soon as the contact was created there and I brought my Kopete client back up, the status showed correctly.

I'm using OSS10, Kopete 0.10.3 installed from RPM
