kopete and msn

Hallo... just yesterday I decided to download and compile kopete. I'm running gentoo 1.4 (if that's needed info) and I compiled and installed kopete successfully. I was using it last night just fine. I had read on the kopete site that msn had changed something on the server which prevented users from logging in, but that the fix had now been implemented into the latest release and CVS and as I say, I had no trouble connecting to MSN yesterday.

However, today I cannot log in to MSN using kopete, I can however, use gaim and I login just fine. Is there any reason behind this? I also noticed that the announcement I read just yesterday had been removed from the kopete site :?

Thanks

seb

I found the only way I can connect to MSN is to remove my MSN account from configure - accounts and create a new one each time I start Kopete, I then get a connection.

A bit of a pain to have to do it, but it works for me :)

I have heard that kopete adds a number to a config file, each time it's ran and that you have to delete this number each time you open kopete, just to connect to msn. The thing is that I didn't need to do that yesterday. But no big deal I guess. I would use 0.8 but i had problems compiling it :-/

Thanks anyway

Well, at least that's what they say on the homepage:
http://kopete.kde.org/

Haven't tried it though, as I don't use yahoo.

It also happended to me and I posted a Bug report. For what I saw in the kopete-devel mailing list, the problem was identified.

Lets just hope a new release comes out soon because compiling from CVS is a pain :-).

it seems that there were some changes in the msn messenger server, and changes have been implemented for release with the latest versions. there are two workarounds to use kopete in the meantime: change the serial number in the kopeterc file each time, or even easier: before signing on to msn, move one of your contacts from one group to the other before going on line. this forces the msn server to reload the contact list, and lets you on line. cheers.

Yes there is but i'm having troubles to do the MAKE command, ./configure works fine, but then i get: make: *** Geen regel voor aanmaken doel `kopete/plugins/perlscript/configure.in.in', nodig voor `configure.in'. Stop.

translation; No rule for making destination 'kopete/... needed fot configure.in'

Anyone with a solution or even better an rpm for MDK9.1 ?

Try going into the kopete directory after the configure command and before
the make command.

> cd [source dir]
> configure [options]
> cd kopete
> make

I did that and I am compiling at the moment so I am not sure if that is the
complete solution. But I'm making progress

Yes it worked.

Kopetes goes to doctor by itself

Suddently my Kopete (0.7.3) is able to connect to MSN again.
I didn't changed anything in Kopete, or in my system, so the MSN network must have changed again.

This may be temporary but there is no need to compile Kopete 0.7.4 for now :-)

Just change one of your contacts to another group before conecting. You 'll connect without any problem then. and won't have double contacts in your list
PS Don't bother installing the 0.74, i did and the problem isn't solved ! :(

What a strange Bug. Just moving stuff arround lets you connect? We should now see this as a feature unique to Kopete. Kopete needs you to play with it for a while before letting you connect. Like a pet. :D

With this new revelation I'm not suprised that the bug is not solved in 0.7.4. It's to strange...for me at least.
