Navigating KMail

I've been impressed with KDE-3.2 and thought I would give KMail a try to compare it to the Ximian Evolution mail client I normally use. It seems to have great potential although I found it highly unstable - especially while downloading my substantialy mailbox with IMAP.

However, I'm struggling a bit with navigation and am assuming it is because I am a bit brain dead after working my way through endless dependencies and then learning the new applications for the last 36 hours!

I normally do not use a preview pane, open only the messages I want to see and delete them from within the open e-mail message. Is it my imagination or is the only way to open an e-mail in KMail by double-clicking on it? I am used to doing most things through the keyboard and just enter on the selected e-mail in Evolution.

Once I opened then e-mail, I did not see how I could delete it from the opened e-mail viewer. I had to close the e-mail and then delete it from the main KMail view.

So, how does one open an e-mail from the keyboard and how does one delete it while viewing the message? Thanks - John

Surprised at the 'unstable' bit - granted I use pop3 but Kmail has never wobbled in 30 months.
Always used preview because most of my mail is threaded and there are all the keybd shortcuts ie p/n for previous/next; +/- for next/previous unread mail; shift+del to get rid of unwanted single item, or if thread is closed it deletes the whole thread.
Not much help but just a thought

RE: Navigating KMail

Hi there. I have been working hard to work out how to navigate kmail just from the keyboard. control-backarrow allows choice of folder in the left-hand column. Once you find the one you want, control-spacebar will select it. You can navigate up and down the list of emails with n and p (for next and previous), and hit enter when (or if) you want to read it in its own full window. Spacebar allows downward scrolling in the preview pane and when an email is open in its own window. For me, if it is in its own window, simply pressing the 'Del' key deletes it, and returns me to the inbox. Same if it is selected in the inbox. There is always the alt- combinations to get you around the menus.

I hope this is of some help, from one seeker to another.
