aRts, two microphones, and recording! The delima !!

Any help is really appreciated ..

I have a built-in sound (i810/ac97) plus a USB microphone (yes microphone only) .. it's a mono mic with one channel only .. I'm using alsa with oss compatiblity .. sound in KDE works fine .. however I'm unable to record using the USB mic!

I can record from alsa using 'arecord', and yes I've set the mic as a capture device with max volume. 'artsrec' doesn't have a device selection switch! So, I don't know which mic it's trying to record from.

Any suggestions? And yeah .. one peculiar thing in kmix .. when I select the USB mic device I see one mic with slider .. but it doesn't move! and I can right click and say 'split channels' .. weired since the mic is mono with one channel only !!

Thanks,

Ok .. I'm still trying to figure this out.

One question: I started 'aRts Control Tool', then from the menu lauched 'Audio Manager', I see two buses only in_soundcard and out_soundcard, is this normal with two input devices (or two sound cards to generalize)? How does one create a bus or change it's properites under aRts? Any ideas.

Thanks,
