kdm and no keyboard input problem...

Hi,
I've recently switched to a faster PC (faster than my old P2-400!) and wanted to log in with kdm (instead logging and startx-ing).
Everything seems to go ok, but I can NOT do any keyboard input!
Let's explain. X starts up, and appears the small window with the users. The cursor blinks, but when I touch a key to write the password, the cursor stops to blink and the app seems to hang! I can not press any key. I can only switch to the console and logging in from it.
X is ok... I do not know what happens... maybe it is something related to init 5 instead of init 2.
I use debian unstable, and KDE 3.2.2
Thanks,
Pietro.
