Initialization Problem with KDE 3.2.1

Initialization Problem with KDE 3.2.1

I have installed KDE3.2.1 in a Linux machine (using konstruct) running Mandrake 9.2. Everything seems to work except when logging in the KDE splash screen comes up with the "Setting up interprocess communication" icon flashing but never goes down the line of initializations. Finally the splash screen goes away and KDE comes up.

The problem is, I think because of this, I cannot access my cd-rom or dvd-rom.

Now if I log on as a different user and start KDE 3.1 everything is fine and the drives are available.

Any ideas on what the problem is and how I can fix it?

so you may lose alot of configurations, but delete ~/.kde and ~/.kderc

Tried that but it is still just sitting at "Setting up interprocess communication". Doesn't go any further.

At that point try Ctrl + F1 to go to another screen and see if the error messages are visible. Ctrl + F7 to come back to the desktop. Sounds possibly like a permissions problem. You might try running the "Desktop Settings Wizard" again, under System on the start menu.
