Install KDE 3.1 SuSE rpm's on SuSE 8.0

Can someone help me with the best way to install KDE 3.1. When I try to install the rpm's I get a lot of dependency errors. There must be a way to know what rpm to install first or is there a way to install them a group.

Ordinarily I use Yast2 - YOU to do the update, but that option is not available to KDE 3.1.

Thanks for the help.

It is, you just have to add the KDE 3.1 source to Yast2: http://lists.suse.com/archive/suse-kde/2003-Feb/0166.html

Thank you for the reply. I had already tried this method. It seams that only SuSE 8.1 has the /yast-source directory. I am on SuSE 8.0 and the ftp server lacks the yast-source directory. I tried to change the installation source to the hard drive, but I could not get it to work. :(

Download all offered rpms and then run "rpm -i *.rpm" - rpm cares for right order itself.

Thanks, I go it to work last night. I used rpm -Uhv *.rpm and then ran SuSEconfig. All is well and I am happy to get on 3.1. :D[/img]

Here is the screen shot of the files I downloaded from the SuSE ftp. You will also need q3-non-mt-3.1.2, I missed it the first time. Yes, I need to use windows at work.

http://members.ivwnet.com/aefox@ivwnet.com/

After you have downloaded the files, open the konsole and sux to root. Male sure you are in the directory you downloaded the files to, if not change to that directory. Run rpm -Uhv *.rpm. You should not have any dependency issues, but if you do you will need to find out what and why (like I found out I missed the qt3-non-mt-3.1.2 rpm). After the packages have installed run "SuSEconfig", which is as easy as typing SuSEconfig at the prompt and reboot.

Good luck. Also, not all the files I downloaded are required, such as Quanta or Koffice.

Thank you for replay :D

I have errors! :!:

error: failed dependencies:
libkateinterfaces.so.0 is needed by kdeaddons3-3.0-5
qt3 = 3.0.3 is needed by qt3-non-mt-3.0.3-14

Please HELLLP :(

The dependencies relate to kde 3.0.x rpm's.

Check to see that you have all the 3.1.x rpm's in the directory you are installing from and make sure that there are no 3.0.x rpm's there.

libkateinterfaces.so.0 is part of kdebase3-3.0.x so again, I think you have some rpm's that are not 3.1.x

Double check and try again.

Thanx ...

I found another way to up-grade.

I download all rpm files from the official site of KDE.
http://www.gtlib.cc.gatech.edu/pub/kde/s…/SuSE/ix86/8.0/

Dependencies were accorded, but fortunately, I found them all in my SuSE 8.0 DVD.

One file I ignored which is related to mozilla.
kdebindings3-mozilla-3.1-44.i386.rpm
(because it depends on files that I don't have)

I posted this information for those how may face the same situation!

And thank you "erugger66" for the information about (3.0.x rpm's dependencies)
I learned useful thing

I'am facing the same mess, now. I try to upgrade from KDE 3.0.5 to 3.1.4 on a SuSE 8.0.
I downloaded all the rpm's (from SuSE) and tried to install them by rpm -ihv *, rpm -Uhv * and rpm -Fhv (all rpm's in one directory). I got a lot of dependencies and circle dependencies which reach up to kde2-compat further to several applications not related directly to KDE AFAIK.
I got rid of some of the circle dependencies but as far as I got now, I'm thinking about deinstalling KDE completely. And I don't know what I have to expect by doing this, yet.
Fortunately I do my testing (before I start upgrading my productive system) on a VMware, which allows to rollback very easy.
