kde installation

I am trying to reinstall kde with lizardx. After using previous acceptable settings I get a "Broken pipe" error message. I try other settings for the video card and display with no luck. The probe looks like it is going to work but then I get a "Fatal IO error" or "BROKEN PIPE" message.
The video works fine up to that point.
Any info on the above would be appreciated
