root password not working after install

I just finished installing SuSE 8.1 and all went well. I logged into KDE and was configuring my network in Yast2. I logged in as root and made changes to host/DNS. When I when back to make some other changes my root password does not work. I cannot login or su to root.

I hope somone can help, I do not want to have to reinstall all over.

Thank you. :(

solution

a possible solution with lilo is:

enter in LiLo:
Linux init=/bin/bash

and then you'll get an root shell if your system is unsecure!

It was nothing technical. I have a habit of using the key pad to type numbers. I used numbers in the root password when the num lock was off.

Yes, I have egg on my face.
