problem getting window bg pitch black

I can by color schemes change it to other colors as blue but not pitch black.
when setting the color as #00000 (aka pitch black) the window bg becomes a mash gradiant from grey to black and oxygen widget style gets all gryeish.
I have tried setting all bg color settings in systemsettings->color shemes->colors but still no luck..
