no desktop file view

hi,
It seems that from 4.1 release, clicking on "Desktop view" doesn't show the background with Desktop's files anymore but only a subscreen devoted to show Desktop directory's files, the rest is only backscreen.
So what is that?
What s the application which displays files in subscreen, any source of documentation?
I ve lost the subscreen(so background empty of file): how to restore it?

I believe what you're referring to here are KDE "plasmoids". Instead of having the contents of the .Desktop fold appearing on your desktop, they are contained in a Plasmoid that displays folder contents. You can have several of these directory view Plasmoids on your desktop, each showing different directories.

For example, I have one Plasmoid showing the contents of a folder I've named .Network that has links to scripts that I've written to connect me to different network domains. I also have a .Favorites Plasmoid that has links to my most used applications.
