Why doesn't Konsole use the Monospace font set in the control centre?

I'm a GNOME user, but usually I try out KDE when a new version releases. Invariably, when I change the fonts in the control centre, Konsole starts using the "General" font, and as this isn't monospaced, the Konsole is rendered almost unusable by the artifacts that occur. I'm changing the fonts to the Bitstream Vera ones, should it make a difference.

I see no record of this on KDE's bug lists, nor do any other reports of this behaviour appear following a Google search. Yet every time I go to use KDE, the problem remains. The most recent systems I have tested this on were a laptop running Debian (Unstable), on which I was using KDE 3.2.2, and a FreeBSD machine running (KDE) 3.1.4.

Sure, I can just change the font in Konsole to a custom one, but I have to do this in every place the KPart is used (Kate, KDevelop, KVim etc.). Has nobody else experienced this?

My apologies if this is the wrong place to post such a message.
