Icons and text in KDE 3.5.9 disappeared

Hello,
I'm new to this forum. I've been using Slackware and KDE for several years. I installed them on my new HP dv2555ea and, not having lot of time because of the university, I used in xorg.conf generic vesa driver.
A few days ago, I decided that Compiz-fusion and Emerald have to become part of my laptop, but changing in my xorg.conf the 'vesa' to 'intel' (obviously having enabled all the other modules and so on...), all icons and text disappear when I start KDE. I mean, I get the DE working (menu, programs, etc) but there is no text and no icons and the system is pretty unuseful. Just to give an example (copy and paste these links):
Full desktop with VESA driver: http://borniko.altervista.org/file.php?tipo=pieno
Empty desktop (the same screenshot) with INTEL driver: http://borniko.altervista.org/file.php?tipo=vuoto
Any ideas 'bout a possible solution???

Thanks a lot, guys.
UNiko.

Ah, and even though I can't see one single letter, compiz and emeral work more than fine...grrr

Uff, pretty serious...

But first let me welcome you to this forum.

So... i am not really a master on composite. But i think it would be nice if you could post your xorg.conf, so we can see if there is something wrong.

Cheers,
Ingo

As far as i can see (remember! not my best part), there seems to be nothing wrong.
Maybe an output of your /var/log/Xorg.0.log can help. The more info the better. ;)

No errors in there.
After asking in #compiz-fusion on irc i got this:

"Add this line to the Device section of your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file: « Option "XAANoOffscreenPixmaps" "true" » Then restart your X server."

Done, but nothing solved... :(

This is the xorg.conf I am using for vesa driver...since everything is (or at least should be) set properly for composite&co. I tried just to change vesa to intel, but everything is just the same as with the other Xorg.conf...

I just tried disabling glx, dri, aiglx, composite and other stuff I added to my xorg.conf in order to get compiz work, but nothing...

hmm, sry, no more idea, maybe you should ask in a more compiz related forum, since i don't think it is kde related. Or maybe someone else can step up here?

I would blame compiz if, once started, the problem begins, but just enabling intel drivers and starting kde doesn't seem a compiz issue...don't you think?
Can you give me some IRC servers and channels about kde? I'll try there.
You did everything possible: thank you!!!

You're right, maybe even a problem with the intel driver in combination with compiz.

IRC Server:
chat.freenode.net

Channels:
#kde
#compiz-fusion

Good luck with that! Would be helpful to post here, if you find a solution, so others can use it.

Try #compiz-fusion first, since #kde said they don't support compiz

I DID IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Simply I downloaded and installed the latest version of the driver (2.4.0) and paid attention to overwrite the old drivers. And everything worked out fine!!!
