Need help with mount

i have just recently got kde 3.5 and when ever i try to mount something this message comes up
A security policy in place prevents this sender from sending this message to this recipient, see message bus configuration file (rejected message had interface "org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.Volume" member "Mount" error name "(unset)" destination "org.freedesktop.Hal")

I would do i manually but i am not root on the computer.
thanks in advance

can you not sudo? You dont need to log in as root as long as you have the root password
What distro are you running?

sudo mkdir /mnt/disk; sudo mount /dev/<something>/mnt/disk

does that get you anywhere?

More info please

Peace
