NTFS & Konqueror

I just installed my Mandriva 2008.1 for the second time and it seems like I have a problem which will not go away.

I have a NTFS 1.8 TB usb disk and when I plug it, KDE and Konqueror are unable to see it.

I checked with a few shell tests that this disk could be mounted
manually but only under root whatever the /etc/fstab line may be.

In fact when I'm under a regular user, the mount instruction seems
to work and does not show any error but when I visit the folder where
it was to be mounted, there's nothing, in fact a df shell command does
not show any mounted disk.

So there are two problems, why is KDE unable to see my disk and why
does the mount instruction fails in mouting the disk while under a
regular user while it is able to do so when under root.

I have to say that the Mandriva 2008.0 was not affected by such problems.

Thanks lot for your help.
