The worst is the new Kmenu.
At least there should be a choice to select between the old traditional Kmenu and the new one.
Agreed, it's totally crap and I can't imagine what the developers were thinking when they designed it.
The good news is, you can right-click on it and choose the old menu. Slightly cut-down, unfortunately, without the option to show recently-used or most-used items. But still far better than the new mess.

And for this comment you revive a 10 month old thread? ;) But i find it interesting how much things at least for me changed since then. I still would choose KDE3 if it would be a separate actively maintained desktop but I have learned to live with KDE4, even with the kickoff menu, which still is a design mess. Even beginners tell me they get irritated by this menu because by clicking on the categories the categories vanish - and they close it to restart the menu instead of using the back bar which they don't recognize as such.
