kmail is reporting sendmail exited abnormally

I've been running kmail on Red Hat Enterprise 3 for years. I seem to have regular problems where kmail stops working with sendmail. It happens whenever our IT group makes any kind of change. They changed the sendmail.cf last November, I eventually sorted that out and it was working until yesterday, when IT changed something else. The sendmail.cf was not changed this time, something- our IT group won't tell me what- was changed on the mail server. The frustrating part is that the "mail" program will send mail. Thus no help from IT. They hate Linux anyway and I am one of handful trying to use my Linux box as my main machine. Whenever I have had kmail/sendmail problems, I could use mail to send mail, kmail is apparently a lot fussier. All I get is a message that says Sendmail exited abnormally. Could anyone give me any hints on how to track down where the problem is or ideally fix it. Thanks.

RE: kmail is reporting sendmail exited abnormally

This turned out not to be the problem I thought it was. sendmail was simply not liking the e-mail address. I couldn't see the problem because I am not allowed to view the sendmail log file and as best I can tell, no error is reported anywhere else. The It guys finally had a look and the problem became obvious.
