amarok: distorted sound when playing some files

A bugreport I filed was rejected as not an amarok issue, directing me here.
(I just post the link there instead copying the text over)

So now my question is:
If it is not amarok, what then is causing these problems?

I hope somebody has an idea as to what is wrong or where to look for the problem.
