KDE trying to start unknown shell?

Can anyone help? When I start KDE (3.5) I get a window popup asking for root password to run the app - kcmshell '-session' '10c5d39569000119' This started appearing a week or so ago, but I can't connect it with any particular event, nor have I been able to locate the string anywhere on the system. System (Debian Sid/KDE 3.5.4) works fine though.

Since I don't know what this is I just cancel it, but it will reappear when I restart the session. rkhunter and ckrootkit don't show anything.

Any help or hints would be appreciated.
