Yes, it took reading lots of pages and forum messages, but now i understand:
KDE 4.0 is to be considered as a Release Candidate.
This explains all the limitations it shows and now I can begin to think the KDE 4.1 will be the great product I expected.
What I really HATE is that they didn't call it KDE 4RC !!!!
Look at KDE's homepage: KDE4 is announced as beeing available, but no mention is made to the fact that it is a RC!
Nor any warning is available at the download page, not even a sigle line to tell us stupids that KDE 4.0 is at a too early stage of development to be considered as a productive environment
I'm pretty sure that future releases of KDE4 will be the best environments to work with on a personal computer. No doubt about it.
What is foolish, if not stupid and suicidal, is to hide the truth and make people discover it after having been heavily disappointed.
I bet the one who decided to release it this way is a marketing guy, not a computer guy......

I agree to an extent. I don't think it is stupid or foolish to release it now under KDE 4.0 instead of a release canidate. If they constantly did release canidates, it will never get finished because only the people who like testing and taking risks would install it. Since it was released, they have had tons of bugs filed which will only make it better.
Additionally, it is only being released on selected live cds and/or added repos. Its not like you are forced to upgrade. Seems quite a few people are satisfied with it so far so i wouldn't say it is "suicidal".

The KDE team has not been secretive at all about how 4.0.0 was going to be a limited release. It is just the basis of what KDE 4 is going to be. They have been saying this for ages... I know you may not have been following it but maybe you can check out what they've been saying before you jump on them?
If you really need a mature solid product then KDE 3.5.8 is your ticket. KDE4.0.0 may not be mature yet (how could it be???) but it is solid enough to run. I've got it running on both my systems already and I'm loving it. That doesn't mean you impression of it is "wrong" it just means that I've accepted KDE4.0.0 for what they said it would be.. and I'm impressed. Others have expected KDE4.0.0 to be everything that KDE4 will be. KDE 3 is mature now, but still has many failings... that's just the nature of things.

Yes me too! I have it running on Kubuntu and OpenSuse and I love it, and I am an old granma who has only been using Linux for the last year! I know that it isn't finished, but as anyone at MS will tell you, it isn't until the 'real users' get their hands on it that all the bugs and problems really surface! I am now using it and filing problems to the KDE guys, that's my way of helping them get this brilliant desktop perfect because I sure can't program or write software, but I can test and bug file!
I think that its great so far anyways.

No, I haven't been following discussions about KDE 4 before. Was it compulsory?
I use my computer to work with it, not to have fun, please my eyes or just spend time. I am only a user, not a fan or a programmer or a developer or a tester. I wish i could have time for all that, but i'm too busy at surviving and raising my kids. I moved to Linux when i felt too bad with the "blue screen of death" and understood the phylosophical difference between open source and closed source, that's all.
I have seen announcements everywhere "KDE 4" is out!!!" and since my desktop is KDE i thought it could be good to upgrade. I repeat again and again: what I find wrong and childish is not to state clearly on the main page and the download page that the product is not yet mature for productive use.
Again I say this behaviour is much like marketing, not computer science.

They didn't call it RC beacuse other developers (who need to make / port they programs to KDE4) were not serious about KDE4 in stage of beta or RC... KDE4.1 will be much more complete than 4.0 thats for sure
