Kmix Kmilo and the master select not working.

Kmix Kmilo and the master select not working.

I have an odd and frustrating one.

I just upgraded from Kubuntu Feisty to Gutsy. I have managed to get every thing that worked under feisty to work under gutsy except one thing. The Master volume control on kmix. Under feisty I configure the two audio controllers I have 1. Microsoft Livechat LX 3000 usb headset and 2. on-board ATI SB HDA Intel controller.

After much messing around I got the headset as default and set the Speaker control as the master through the Kmix menu. On feisty it worked.. the volume buttons on the headset (which are treated by Kmilo as the volume special keys) brought up the OSD for the volume and controlled the volume of the speakers..

After a fresh install of Gutsy and the same messing around getting the sound controllers setup the same as I had in Feisty, The volume buttons refuse to control the Speaker volume level and keep defaulting to controlling the Mic level on the headset...

Nothing I do will change this, I tried the menu Master setting and even tried to modify the Kmixrc file but my guesses didnt seem to work...

If some one can please help me get the master set to the Speaker level permanently I would be appreciative.

Have you tried setting up your global shortcuts by right clicking the specific channel you want the keyboard to control (instead of just the master channel?)

I was having a similar problem: The keyboard volume controls were not affecting whatever I chose for Master Volume from kmix. They were stuck on controlling PCM - and the PCM channel can't be muted, according to kmix. So I could select the Front channel to be the master, and the keyboard mute button would work, but the voume up and down wouldn't.

I tried setting up the global shortcuts under master channel in kmix, what I think eventually worked was that I right clicked Front and was able to specifically set the shortcuts up for it.

I will say though, I did a lot of experimenting - including re-logging in and changing the sound settings from autodetect to ALSA specifically.

Whatever I did, my volume keys and the panel volume now all control the front channel, which I want. Unforunately, at least for me, the OSD for volume only would show up when my shortcuts were the default (and controlled PCM). Initially, I was able to get them to show up again when I deleted all the custom shortcuts in Kmix. But since then, I've also disabled kmilo and reenabled it a half a dozen times, each with different variations of shortcuts set in kmix.

Finally, where I am at now, now I can have the shortcuts set to the kmix master control, select Front as the master channel, and have the volume keys work. I don't know why. But I am also unable to get the OSD back.

I know, its a lot of messy information, but it is a messy problem. I guess the bottom line for what I'm suggesting to you, to start, is did you try right clicking the specific channel in Kmix and setting up the keys specifically to that?
