strange menu problem....

Sometimes when I log into kde ( I also use fluxbox and gnome) in the K menu there is nothing in the system tab and also the control center entry is missing. I originaly thought this might be the result of an update however this has occured at times when I have not updated anything in days. Some times after a cold boot, some times after a reboot, sometimes when I have just switched desktop environments for whatever reason. And not every time either. logging off kde and restarting it has no effect. sometimes rebooting will fix it sometimes not.

I'm running fedora core 6 on a pentium m 2.Gz

Any thoughts or suggestions?

the kde user guide (should be installed with kde, or checkout http://docs.kde.org) discribes environment variables for kmenu, and kcontrol.
Check if setting such an environment variable explicitly in ~/.bashrc helps.
you can also try to rename ~/.local and restart kde, see if that helps. ~/.local contains menu information, AFAIK that directory is shared between the different desktop environments.
