Synthesized sound (MIDI) does not play
Not sure if this is strictly KDE, but my system can't play any MIDIs. I've tried them with all kinds of players, including KMid - all to no avail.
I'm using ALSA as the sound system.
The MIDI Device shows up in the control panel as "Midi Through Midi Though Port-0 - ALSA device". "Use MIDI mapper" is unchecked.
All other sounds (non-synthesized) work just fine.
Any help appreciated!

It seems like alsa could not find a hardware synthesizer (or your sound card does not have one - which is precisely my case)...
you may want a software synthesizer, try sourceforge.net/projects/timidity/ , it can be configured as a MIDI output device for ALSA (check the documentation)...
Timidity needs a soundfont to produce the actual sound, google for this, "The atomic soundfont" works fine for me...

Umm... I was under the impression that all modern sound cards have a hardware synthesizer...
I have an Audigy 2 ZS Platinum - a fairly high-end card.
Oh, it has
specs on creative.com - which clearly state it has a hardware synthesizer...
Do I need something extra to make it work? Shouldn't ALSA "just work" with it?
