How do I update track length in Amarok?

Hi, this is my first post to this forum. I'm uncertain if this is the appropriate place for venting my problem, but I haven't so far found any better place for it. I'm using Amarok 1.4.5 with PostgreSQL 8.1.8 backend on KDE 3.5.5, on a Gentoo system.

Some of the MP3 tracks in my collection are registered with an incorrect track length. I have downloaded MP3Fixer 0.9.4, which appears to solve the problem, but the information in the database doesn't update. And there doesn't seem to be any place in Amarok where it's possible to enter information about track length. I have inspected the database, and found that I could update the track length directly from the psql prompt ("update tags set length=204 where title='Yadda Yadda';"), but I hardly think this is a viable solution, especially in the cases where every track of an album are registered with incorrect lengths.

Any ideas ?(

Hi leifbk,

I never encountered mp3 files with incorrect track lengths, so i have no idea how you can fix that in amarok.
You could try to remove the mp3 files from you collection, then update the database, put the mp3 files back into the collection and update the database again.

You can also ask your question at http://amarok.kde.org/forum/index.php/
With luck, the developers of amarok will respond to your question ;)

AFAIK, there is no database for this information, other than the .CDDB database, but that doesn't contain track length. That's actually contained in a header in each audio file. If the fixer utility didn't do that, then I think you might have to rip the files again. Also, what version of Amarok are you using? I remember having a similar problem a few versions back, so maybe updating Amarok will help.
In retrospect, everything is funny.

Track length reporting in Amarok (Taglib)

Hi.

This is the first time I have posted here and I hope someone here can help.

Having done some reading around the internet, this appears to be a taglib problem.

I have a collection of around 10,000 mp3 files. I use windows programs to play the files at the moment, because I haven't found a linux program reliable enough to use in a production environment.

Example: Every Day Hurts by Sad Cafe:- playing time reported by all windows programs = 3 min 45 sec - Segway begins at 3 min 40 sec and the next song starts.

Amarok reports the song as being 1 min 53 sec and segways into the next song at 1 minute 48 sec.

Most songs are reported as being too short, although some are too long, in which case the song jumps to the next track without a segway.

I really like linux, but I can't use it until I get this fixed.

I'm using Amarok 1.4.7, taglib-1.4-1.fc4, KDE 3.5.3-0.2.fc4 Red Hat

I hope someone can help.

Geoff.
