Windows opening in front

I get frustrated when i open a new window whilst working on the original. The new window opens over the one I am working on and I have to stop what I am doing to move it. I would like the new window to open behind or minimised is this possible.

in kcontrol (the kde control center, not kubuntu's systems settings window), go to [desktop->window behavior], tab [advanced]

the last option on that tab is [New windows get focus: ]
Select [Never] or a less strict policy.
