Buttons mysteriously centered in Panel

I am using KDE 3.5.5 on Kubuntu 6.10.

I had just installed IE for Linux, and it placed the icon on my desktop. I dragged the icon from my desktop to my Panel next to my other icons, and suddenly all of the icons in my panel were centered! The KDE button starts right in the center of the panel now, with all the others to the right of it. I can add icons to the left of it, but I can't figure out how to get the buttons to left-justify in the Panel.

I've tried everything in the Panel configuration to no avail.

Can you move the icons using your right mouse button?

You can also try middle-clicking and holding on the icons and drag them around to reposition them.

Actually, both moving methods worked! I didn't know about the middle-click, but I did know about the right-click - I just forgot to try it. I was so focused on it being something in the configuration. I guess I thought there would have been a way to fix it all at once. But instead, I just moved everything back into place, one by one.

I'd like to know why it happened though, but I guess it's just 'one of those bugs'.
Thanks for the help.
