task bar stays hidden

I have noticed this on several distributions with kde. I set the task bar to hide and everything is fine for a day or a week then after the screen saver is exited the task bar will not come up. This only occurs occasionally. Logging out and then back in seems to clear the behavior.

Any ideas?
