The substitude fonts in qt3-config can't work

The substitude fonts in qt3-config can't work

I am a traditional Chinese user, I am learning Japanese now. So, I have to view some documents which have both Chinese and Japanese.

Actually, I have some Chinese fonts and some Japanese fonts. And, I have configured a .conf file in /etc/fonts/conf.d/ ,called 10-myfonts.conf. I make Chinese fonts have more priorities than Japanese fonts. Like this:

PS. AR PL New Sung and AR PL ShanHeiSun Uni are Chinese fonts, while Kochi Mincho and Kochi Gothic are Japanese fonts.

This setting works well in gtk-based programs, but not in qt-based programs.

As a result, I installed qt3-qtconfig to use the substitude fonts fuction, I followed the guide in the left side, but it doesn't work at all after I restart X server. Those characters which Chinese fonts don't have are displayed by a square or a space.

I have asked a Chinese font developer about this problem, he said that this is the bug of QT.

Do anyone know how can this problem be solved? And will KDE4 have better solutions to solve this kind of problem?

I hope this problem can be known by some developers who are good at this field.

I checked the site of your screenshot, but could not find any undisplayed fonts in the text.

I use opensuse 10.1 with kde 3.5.5.
opensuse puts a lot of effort in supporting Azian languages.
for example, friend of mine has mandriva and wanted a Chinese desktop for his girlfriend.
It took him over a week to get things working correctly (locale, fonts displaying, keyboard input, etc)
with opensuse, i selected [Traditional Chinese] in YaST and 10 minutes and about 100MB of additional software, fonts, etc my whole system was Chinese!!

So if you can find some spare room on your PC, try out opensuse..

The page you see might be pure Chineese, take a look at this location:http://pswo10680.blogspot.com/2007_02_01…381816983187943

This contains both Chineese and Japaneese, the last line of fifth paragragh has a character which is not contained by any Chineese font. It just becomes a square in my system.

Or, you can visit a pure Japaneese web site in traditional Chineese locale, than you may get it. Such as yahoo Japan: http://www.yahoo.co.jp/
