outgoing mails not working

would like to know what needs to be done to send mail.
Receiving works fine and yes i have a local dns server running which runs as only a cache server.
The send mail does not respond with any sort of message in order to rectify this issue.

any help is appreciated.

Hi,

You have to check that the mail server you want to send the outgoing mail is the same server as you use for downloading. Typically it is, but sometimes, the port setting is different (as for my ISP), or the host is different.
My case being a bit weird, I have a different host, port, and also a different user/password for outgoing mail wrt incoming mail.

Also setting up the outgoing mail server let's you check what the remote server accepts in terms of security ('Check what the server supports') that may help you select appropriate login cryptographical features.

hi PAF,
did what u said.
"check what the server supports". and the client made the changes as suggested by the server.
tried sending the same . But the mail client gives blank looks.
In comparison , Evolutionon Gnome, atleast throws up a error message which is helpful. KMail sits as a mute spectator.
What next to do.
I am trying to connect to gmail and download the mails.
It works perfectly fine withEvolution both sending and receiving.
But u must be wondering why then am i switching mail client. I happened to discover quite recently that KDE is better configured for a whole lot of function and the footprint is much lesser. hence this swithover.

Did you ever get this working? I got kmail to send mails, but it won't recieve them. I also had this working with evolution.
