file association

is it possible to configure a group of assocition in one operation ? e.g. associate all 'text' files to 'myprogram' in a single operation.
Second question 'text'/plain' is associated to kde-kate. What is kde-kate and where is it located ?

yep, you can set a specific association for a complete group, and then tell all members of that group to follow the group settings.

you can type: whereis kde-kate or which kde-kate to locate the program.
I never heard of kde-kate, on most systems its just called kate

program files (e.g. binary files) can be found in the directory $KDEDIR/bin, on suse that is /opt/kde3/bin, on other distributions it can be /usr/bin or similar.

Thank you for your answer, but when I go to kde's configuration window / file association, I do not see how to configure a group :
If I click on the 'text' group' nothing happens : I Have no option to configure the group, although when I open the tree 'text' and then click on e.g. 'plain' I have the option to apply the group options. So what is the sequence of commands to specify a group option ?

Answer to the econd question : 'kde-kate' is the name of the service to be called for a 'text/plain' association it is in ~/.local/share/application (Mandriva 2007)
