Why won't KDE print in OpenOffice... All other apps print?!?

I've spent about 16 hours researching and can't find help... Using "Edgy"... All updates... ALL apps print fine on Canon ip2200. None of the Koffice or OpenOffice apps print. When I go to "print setup" in Writer, it recognizes my printer. Previews fine and when I click "print" it appears that it sent it but nothing happens. I printed a test page from "spadmin" with no problem. The printer icon in writer/Calc/Base all have a lightning-bolt through it (no link ). PLEASE HELP!!!! SAVE ME FROM CONSIDERING WINDOWS EVER AGAIN!!!

RE: Why won't KDE print in OpenOffice... All other apps print?!?

Note that KOffice and OpenOffice have no similarities regarding printing, so these are two separate issues.

What do you mean with all apps? Do KDE applications print propertly? If so, then it is really strange why a KOffice app does not print, because it uses the same technology as every other KDE application.

RE: Why won't KDE print in OpenOffice... All other apps print?!?

I mean... EVERYTHING else prints... pdf files, gimp, notes, korganizer, evolutions, etc... When I open OpenOffice and try to print in any of its' programs, Writer/Calc/Base... they all preview fine, show my printer as "Canon ip2200", I click print and a dialog "sending to printer" opens for a second, but nothing prints. I originally installed OpenOffice and it didn't print. Then I installed Koffice and same exact thing happens. The icon for "print" in both OpenOffice and Koffice both have a lightning bolt looking thing through it. I even formated my hard drive, re-installed everything from scratch and it didn't make any difference.

I'm out of ideas when you state that KOrganizer prints fine but KOffice does not (I'm not supporting the OOo part though).

OpenOffice STILL wont' print... All other apps are fine

Here's what I did since my last post...
1. Format hard drive and clean re-install Kubuntu 6.10 (Edgy)
2. Installed Automatix and Synaptic and got all updates
3. Installed Canon ip2200 printer and tested it ...
. . . . Korganizer: PRINTS fine
. . . . Kate: PRINTS fine
. . . . Adobe Reader: PRINTS pdfs fine
. . . . Gimp: PRINTS images fine
4. Installed OpenOffice 2.1. In "KMenu > Office > Printer Administration... OpenOffice recognizes my printer and PRINTS TEST PAGE perfectly.

When I open any Office program (Writer / Calc / Base)... NONE OF THEM PRINT ?!?!?!?!?

Anyone have a clue??? I don't know what else to try. I've searched the web for the past 82 hours... no joke. Thanks to anyone trying to help.

Well, this is an openoffice issue, not a kde issue (kde does not handle printing for non kde applications like openoffice..)

There should be an openoffice forum available on the internet....

Does openoffice find your printers correctly?
Can openoffice print to file?

I'M ON TO SOMETHING Smiley

I borrowed someone's brother mfc210c, installed it and IT PRINTS EVERYTHING. All Linux apps, INCLUDING openoffice.

The original printer I've been having trouble with - Canon IP1600 - using a driver for CanonIP2200 (as per several "how-tos") is still having the same problem. Prints ALL linux apps, EXCEPT openoffice.

So... is that a driver issue?

RE: Why won't KDE print in OpenOffice... All other apps print?!?

I had the same problem. Check page size and margins. It could be Letter in the document and A4 in the printer. If document larger than printer can print, it can silently ignore it.
