How can I set the the number of increase/decrease steps with each press of the volume increase/decrease controls on my Logitech multimedia keyboard? It is defaulted to 10, and I'd like to have more precise control. There is too much of a decible difference with each press, so it is nearly impossible to get a comfortable setting without also adjusting the speaker volume control to compensate. Please excuse me if I am asking about something that is already documented, but I cannot find an answer. I really appreciate any help that can be offered.

It controls "kmix", at least it does in my configuration. If you start "kmix", display the mixer, then select "Settings", then "Configure kmix" you can "Dock to Panel" and "Enable system tray volume control" and it should always be enabled. In order for your audio keys to function, you need to select a compatible keyboard. In PCLinuxOS there are two places that need to be set for the multimedia keyboard to work, start the "PCLinuxOS Control Center" found under the "Configuration" menu, then select "Hardware", then "Configure your keyboard". I have a Logitech Cordless which is listed. After you select the keyboard manufacturer and model (hopefully your model is listed there, otherwise you need to use the trial by error method to try to find one which uses the same key codes as your model). Given that you have selected a compatible model, you need to run "KDE Control Center", select "Accessibility", then "Keyboard layout", click on the "Keyboard Model" drop down list and select the same model you selected in PCLinuxOS Control Center configuration. After you have saved your settings you should be able to use most of the keys on your keyboard by default. If not try another model. Good luck.
