KITEsuite proposal

Hi all,

I'm a newbie to Linux but from what I have seen, it's a fantastic platform that seems to offer a rich set of features to those willing to try it out. I was thinking about the success of Apple's iLife suite and I started thinking about an equivalent for Linux; how about... (drum roll...) ""KITEsuite"? KITE would stand for Kite (or KDE or just K) Interactive Technology Environment, and could include the following:

*KITEburn: k3b
*KITEdisc: Something like Nero Vision or iDVD, perhaps 'Q' DVD author could be considered once it's stable?
*KITEplay/Amarok: in place of iTunes
*KITEpic: something like Picasa/iPhoto/fspot
*KITEtv: MythTv/Freevo optimised for KDE?
*KITEfilm: Kino made more like iMovie/Windows Movie Maker?
*KITEweb: possibly something like N|vu, but more consumer-oriented (probably not a big priority)
*Perhaps close integration with KOffice

As you can see, many of these components exist already. What I would propose is that we integrate them with each other in a similar fashion that Apple has integrated its products. Perhaps after recording a TV show with KITEtv and transcoding the video files into DVD format on KITEdisc, they could be burned to DVD with KITEburn. Or you could create a slideshow/screensaver in KITEpic with your photos accompanied to music on your Amarok/KITEplay playlist. Finally, a cohesive interface akin to that of Nero Startsmart could provide a task-based approach to help you achieve your aims. Obviously, this is a pipedream and would be very difficult and time-consuming to implement, but it's a vision for the future. We should probably wait for KDE 4 to be stable before any major work is done. This could take many years to reach fruition.

What are your thoughts and opinions? Good/bad idea? Is there already a project like this in the works? Would there be people out there interested in making this a reality? I am not yet a programmer, but perhaps once I learn about Qt and some programming languages like C++/Python/etc. I might try my hand at it.
