Kmail configuration broken

Hi All,

I'm new to this forum. I'm presently struggling with Kmail which I recently installed as part of KDEPIM in Kanotix(Debian) as a package. When I started Kmail, it allowed me to set up for receiving and sending mail. Then, I was able to receive and send mail.

Now, when I went to Settings, Configure Kmail, all I get is an Empty page, no buttons, nothing.
I'm also getting messages for "no mime types installed" as well as "no mime type for application /octet-stream" This I understand I could fix if i could access
the Kmail configuration page.
Please advise me at least on the kmail configuration problem.

Update:

I've just discovered that by rebooting the system I can now access
the kMail config page and the mime messages have ceased.
However, after configuring mail for a user, and trying to retrieve or send mail, I get a message of unknown host. This happens in Thunderbird or kMail.
Any suggestions??

Gilles

RE: Kmail configuration broken

The unknown host problem has many causes and it's hard to tell what to do in that case. Make sure you can reach the host with the ping command. But configuring you network settings is beyond the scope of this forum.
