how to add subtitles in KAFFEINE

Am I newly coverted GNOME--> KDE user. Been using GNOME for 2 years.I simply got tired of GNOME's so called simplicity for reasons I believe are already known.
Yesterday I did a fresh install of KUBUNTUS EDGY EFT! Naturaly I did a server install and then installed KDE-CORE! Since I dont like all the crap that KUBUNTU-IMAGE package installs.

Naturally I installed KAFFEINE as I heard it was amongst the best players in KDE. I watch lots of DIVX movies and I also need SUBTITLE support.

So how do I add external subtitle to a DIVX movie? Since I do not want to always rename the subtitle file to match the name of the movie file for it to get auto loaded in KAFFEINE.

Re: how to add subtitles

Have you tried KPlayer? There is File/Load Subtitles...

I tried it and it works, but then I lose support for displaying subtitiles below the movie, U know in the BLACK area! If that would work to than KPLAYER would be great!

ps. Im just puzzled since under features for KAFFEINE it says DIVX subtitile support! So why cant I load another subtitle to the movie instead of just the one that has the same name as the movie itslef?

From MPlayer FAQ:

Q: How can I get subtitles to appear on the black margins around a movie?
A: Use the expand video filter to increase the area onto which the movie is rendered vertically and place the movie at the top border, for example:

mplayer -vf expand=0:-100:0:0 -slang de dvd://1

So start KPlayer, open the properties of your video file, go to the Advanced page, and put -vf expand=0:-100:0:0 into the Additional Command Line Parameters field.

Hope that helps.

Yes, SourceForge CVS gets regular updates, there are a few new things since the last release, including a whole new multimedia library thing that replaced playlist editor. The developer promised a release several times this year, but some things are still buggy, I guess that's why we are still waiting... But I personally like even the old version better than any other player on any platform.

The only thing that matters to me when dealing with PLAYERS is the following:
Must play DIVX + subtitles
HAS the option to add SUBTITLES on the FLY.
It should display subtitiles on the black bar below the movie.
When in FS the player should have the progres bar visible when moving the mouse on the bottom! So U can fast forward also when in FS.
And it should have PAN SCAN or ZOOM capabilities when in FS.

I believe the latter 2 aren't available in KPLAYER! At least I couldnt find theme! DOes anyone know if it is possible?

The current CVS does that. Don't remember what 0.5.3 did, I think it just restarted the movie when you loaded subtitles.

How about just using keyboard? It's faster and easier than using mouse. Ctrl+RightArrow for fast forward, just RightArrow for slower forward, etc. Of course you can still show the progress bar in full screen mode, but it won't autohide, so I'm assuming that's not what you are looking for.

I think I saw KPlayer zoom in full screen, maybe try using the mouse wheel. Not sure though.
